success stories

This experience was incredibly valuable because it gave me the opportunity to gain real world experience and work on projects that actually contributed to the company. I was able to strengthen my research, organization, communication, and professional skills while learning different programs such as Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams.
Now I currently work as a student professional worker with Los Angeles County Department of Public Works, where I support different administrative, research, and project-related tasks.
My biggest advice to future interns would be to take advantage of every opportunity you are given.

My time at BEAM was an incredible experience. I had the opportunity to prepare math lessons for students pursuing the subject, which helped me build teaching and retention strategies I can use as a future educator. I also learned how to navigate a professional workspace and collaborate effectively with a team, creating memories I'll carry with me long after the internship ended. Beyond lesson planning, I developed educational games and puzzles. I applied a "progressive overload" approach to help students steadily build their math skills. One of my favorite parts was teaching students how to build robots, since learning alongside them made the experience even more rewarding.

TIP was my first real introduction to the professional world, connecting me with The Aerospace Corporation and giving me the chance to see what working in a professional STEM environment actually looked like. Being around engineers and professionals showed me things that you don't really learn in a classroom, how people communicate, carry themselves, work together, and approach problems in a real world organization.  Today, I’m now studying Electrical Engineering at Stanford University, and this past summer I worked at Amazon as a Software Development Engineer intern. I’ve been fortunate to receive 9+ scholarships, including the Gates Scholarship.

During my internship with The Intern Project, I worked as a Logistics & Media Intern, where I got to experience the behind-the-scenes work that keeps a program running. My internship also gave me the opportunity to grow in communication, organization, time management, and accountability while working with a team in a hybrid environment.
This fall, I began my first year at UC Berkeley as a first-generation Salvadorian immigrant studying Political Economy. Starting college has been a new chapter for me, and I’ve been excited to explore everything Berkeley has to offer. I currently work as an EOP Intake Intern, where I support students and help with community events, and I’m also involved in the Latino Business Student Association through its Academic Affairs Committee. I’m looking forward to continuing to learn, getting involved in my community, and discovering new opportunities along the way.

During my internship with America On Tech, we were able to learn and interact with the fundamentals and ethics of Artificial Intelligence. For our final project, my group and I made our very own chatbot, “Environmental Glow!” to help students across California navigate complicated composting and recycling specific to their personal state, city, and district policies, which ultimately won first place for the “Chatbot Innovator Award.”
  1. Since participating in TIP, I have recently started a StudentsBuild team, another opportunity powered by LA Promise Fund. My team, “Saving Our Home,” focuses on environmental advocacy and cultivating leadership skills within my community at Foshay Learning Center. My internship experience helped me realize I want to pursue an education and career in engineering sustainable technology!
