How it works
TIP provides outstanding high school students from schools across LA County the chance to work in dynamic career areas through internships of four or more weeks during their summer break between June- August. Please note that priority will be given to high need students.
Ideal TIP candidates are responsible young adults completing their Sophomore, Junior, or Senior year at an LA County high school, with a record of high academic achievement, consistent attendance, knowledge and use of social media, and, above all, have a passion to work in one of these identified fields: Arts, Media & Entertainment, Engineering & Tech, Business, Government/Non-Profit/Philanthropy, Sports, and Healthcare & Medical Technology.

June 20th-22, 2023: Mandatory Internship Orientation week. The orientation will cover TIP programming details and will also include professional development workshops, networking activities, and more. June- Aug Internships and TIP programming begin! 1. Resume
- A resume that includes your name, email address, phone number, home address, cumulative GPA, current school, leadership experience/extracurricular activities, any previous work/internship/volunteer experience, and skills/interests.
2. Industry Interests Statements
- We want to place students in their interest and want to know which industries they are interested in interning at.
- We ask students to explain why they want to work in the field/industry. Why they should be selected to be an intern there. Share any relevant experiences, interest, and what you hope to learn.
3. SHORT RESPONSE ESSAY (350 words max)
- Prompt 1: Describe an example of your leadership experience in which you have positively influenced others, helped resolve disputes or contributed to group efforts over time.
- Prompt 2: Discuss an accomplishment, event, or realization that sparked a period of personal growth and a new understanding of yourself or others.
- Prompt 3: The lessons we take from obstacles we encounter can be fundamental to later success. Recount a time when you faced a challenge, setback, or failure. How did it affect you, and what did you learn from the experience? What steps did you have to take to overcome this challenge, setback, or failure?
- Prompt 4: Describe how you have taken advantage of a significant educational opportunity or worked to overcome an educational barrier you have faced.
4. TIP Video
- A video of no more than 2 minutes in length answering the questions below. You are welcome to make this as creative as you like! Please watch the video below for tips on how to make a great application video.
- Tell us a little about yourself: who are you (name, grade/age, school, what are some of your passions, etc.)
- The TIP program was designed to provide outstanding LA County students the opportunity to access internships and workplace learning experiences that may otherwise be unavailable. Why you? What sets you apart from other applicants?
- What past experience/skills will help you be a successful intern?
- What do you hope to learn/gain by being a TIP intern? How will this experience help you reach your goals?

How to submit
- You must create a unique (free) Submittable account
- The TIP Summer Internship application is submitted in 2 parts.
- Part 1 is a general written application that asks for demographic information, your interests & why, and for personal responses.
- After completing and submitting part 1, please check your submittable account for part 2 of the application.
- Application Part 2 is our video portion where you submit a video answering questions we ask so we can learn more about you. The questions will be found in the email and form after submitting part 1.
- If you are having difficulties submitting part 2 on your submittable account, please submit your video link here
- We recommend writing your essays in Word or Google Doc so that you can save, edit, spell check, and be able to access them in the future.
- Submit the following application materials through your Submittable account. Please submit part 1 & Part 2 of the application by March 5th, 2023 at 11:59pm PST (CLOSED)
- Only applicants that complete & submit both parts (part 1 & part 2) of the application by March 5th will be considered for review.
